(Hello ICLWers. In short, I'm a 35-year-old with PCOS, endo, and male factor infertility. After two rounds of natural IUI, four of Clomid, and two injectables, I'm trying to figure out how to pay for IVF)
I haven't posted in a few weeks because I've been busy thinking. First, I thought I would just use the last two vials of sperm with IUI and shots. Then I thought "screw it. It's only money that's stopping me from the IVF so just do it."
Had I written this post a few days ago, I would have told you about my appt next Thursday with my clinic for the teaching session. But I would need to go to that appt with a check for $9k and it's not going to happen.
We moved last summer and have been unable to sell our old house. We're paying for the old house and our new place and losing about $1k a month. Until the house sells, I can't put out the money for IVF. It's ridiculous. I just hope the house sells fast so I can do IVF soon since my eggs aren't getting any younger. Who ever thought the housing market would prevent a girl from getting knocked up?
In the meantime, my body is still recovering from the last two rounds of meds. Period is now three days late and I've had cramps that could kill a cow. And I'm bloated and suspect that I look a little pregnant in my mid-section. The first person to ask when I'm due will lose a finger.

Just a finger? I would take the whole hand. It sucks your old house is holding you down. I hope you can get it sold and be on your way.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!

Did you steal that bit about cramps that could kill a cow from me, circa 1989?
ReplyDeleteI am a newcomer to ICLW (#82) and I believe that if you want something bad enough, you'll find ways to make it happen. We've been on our fertility journey for 2 years now (3 rounds of Clomid, 2 unsuccessful IUI attempts using injectibles) and I hate what it has done to my body - I have put on weight due to the meds AND STRESS which has gone all to my mid region. Your last paragraph made me laugh somewhat because you should read my blog because the running complaint I have is I am sick and tired of people asking me if I am pregnant. Insulting and offensive.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried renting your house? I know from experience being a landlord from afar is a pain, but so is throwing money at an empty house. We also moved recently and could not sell our old house due to the market. So we started renting it and at least we break even on it now. Plus there are some nice tax advantages.
ReplyDeleteI promise not to ask you. You should be safe since I can't see you. I agree - try to rent it. I can't buy a house, so I rent, and I have a feeling there are many of us out there in the same boat. I'm 5 days late for AF and annoyed as hell. I think I feel the twinges starting. She needs to start so I can start my one and only IVF cycle!!! Good luck, hon. Missed ya.
ReplyDeleteIf the meds are starting to make you crazy, you might want to try doing a simple little detox - just drink water or herbal tea and only eat fruits and veggies for 3 days, then gradually add in some more of your regular diet. I was surprised at how quickly it helped me.
ReplyDeleteIts unbelievable how much carrying a house can add to your burden (take it from someone currently carrying TWO investment properties!!) I hope it sells really quickly so you can move onto IVF
ReplyDeleteI really hope you can sell your house quickly! But I agree with a previous poster - how about renting it out for a few years until the market recovers??? Just a thought - hope this doesn't prevent you from reaching your dreams!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so crazy that money- on top of IF diagnosises prevent people from getting pregnant. sorry about your house not selling. I hope it happens for you soon.

Stopping by from ICLW and I know the frustrating feeling of not being able to sell your house. We eventually had to rent it out, but we're still loosing a good chunk of money every month.
ReplyDeleteI hope you stumble upon the funds necessary for your IVF soon :)
Checking in from ICLW. It so sucks that having a baby often comes down to money. DH and I were completely OOP when it came to infertility treatments, so I can totally relate to your feelings. Hopefully your house sells soon.
ReplyDeleteI will say a prayer that your house sells soon so that you can move on to IVF. I am so sorry you have to deal with this road block given everthing else!
ReplyDeleteLOL at the finger comment. I have that same feeling when people simply ask "when are you going to get to having kids?"

It's sickening how expensive it is to struggle with fertility issues. It's already depressing and then it hits your pocketbook just too kick you down even more. Hoping your house is sold soon or maybe rented. Good Luck!

GL selling your home. It must be so frustrating to have that holding you back! Also - enjoy your new necklace...it is super cute!
ReplyDeleteICLW
I'm hoping that your house gets sold ASAP. We are looking at moving too and it's so scary.

I hope that your house sells soon. If I see AF I'll send her your way and vice versa.
ReplyDeleteICLW
I hate how financial considerations must be such a large factor in our reproductive decisions! Grrr.
ReplyDeleteI hope your house sells soon.

I am sorry. I really hate that money has to play a role in IVF. I wish that infertility was viewed as the disease that it is. Hoping that the house sells soon and you can move onto IVF.

Two mortgages AND IF? Double whammy, for sure!
ReplyDeleteI hope you use this time to be good to yourself, and recovering from the drugs. I haven't done IUI, but IVF can be really hard on the body.
Happy ICLW!
I hate that finances get in the way of making a family. I live in NY state and was able to get a state grant to finance a percentage of our cyles (2 cycles cost $10,000 not $30,000). perhaps there is something like that where you live? Does you clinic do sliding scale at all? wishing you tons of luck.
ReplyDeleteP.S. anyone who asks you if you are pregnant needs to be killed, you never say that until it looks like the woman is going into labor at any second!
~ICLW~
Ugh, why does IVF have to cost so much?! I'm sorry you're having to worry about finances on top of IF. I hope you sell your house soon. Maybe worth coming down on the price to finally get rid of it.
ReplyDeleteHappy ICLW!
hope you can sell your house. it is hard enough paying for IVF when the finances are in order.
ReplyDeleteeveryone knows they should never ask a woman if she is pregnant. hopefully no one will ask you that.

Just a finger? They may never walk again. I will be hoping your house sells soon. I've sold two in the last two years so I know it can happen. I'll send you some of my selling good luck vibes. :-)
ReplyDeleteICLW
I hope you sell soon, so you can start on your journey!!!
ReplyDeleteICLW
Oh money! How I loath thee!
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed the house gets sold and you get a shot at your dreams!
