I'm tired of how disappointed we all are when we get our periods. No one knows more than me how upsetting it is. As my husband can tell you, I'm not a "look on the bright side" kind of person. But I have it idea that might help the negative pregnancy test sting just a little less.

I'm calling it GAP-BAG. It stands for Get A Period-Buy A Gift.

Last month, I decided that if I got my period, I was going to buy myself this necklace I've had my eye on for at least a year. It's not a break-the-bank kind of necklace, but I don't like to spend money on things like this for myself when we have bills and plenty of other places to put our money.

But damnit, I (we) deserve something for the hell I've (we've) gone through these last two months. Since I decided on the necklace before this cycle began, I started watching for a sale. Not only will it go on sale this Wednesday, I have a $10 off coupon. Gotta love Kohls. So here is a photo of the necklace I'll be buying myself as a consolation prize:

What about my IF sisters? What will you do to lift your own spirits if the bad kind of spotting starts? It doesn't have to be expensive, maybe a book or even a double mocha latte since you've been avoiding coffee during the 2ww.

  1. I hit the S-bucks drive thru for a venti white chocolate mocha...with whip :-)

  2. I try to get a pedicure every time I get AF. Totally agree that you should get a present!!! My hubs hasn't figure it out yet, so I do it for myself!

  3. I love the idea...pedicure might be just the ticket!
I'm your newest follower from ICLW.

  4. Hi, found your blog and we have some similarities...TTC#2 for 2+ years, spent a year dealing with Clomid and I am now on injectables (well, next week hopefully)

As for a GAP-BAG (love that) I go clothes shopping. I might have to look in to something else...;) Thanks!

  5. I once spent a month in Europe as a not-yet-pregnant consolation prize. My master's program was offering an amazing summer study abroad opportunity, but when I first heard about it, I was sure I would be pregnant or even already have a baby by then and so be unable to go. Since there was no baby in sight, off I went, and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I still would have taken a baby over the trip any day, but it was a darn good consolation prize! So yeah, I totally support your GAP-BAG plan!

And, thanks so much for your comment on my blog! Good point about sharing a link where my cousins can learn more about being egg donors--they definitely don't know anything about it!

  6. I like this idea. My endo told me about her fertility struggles and encouraged me to treat myself everytime I get my period. I don't have to spend money, just be good to myself. Unfortunately, that usually involves spending, but it is deserved.
    Sorry this wan't your cycle!

  7. Good old glass of wine and some sushi!
I love the idea of GAP-BAG, I shall steal that! I am expecting my period anytime now. If I get it, I will have the usual drink and food, but also buy myself a cute little makeup bag I have seen to hold all of my injectibles I will need for my 1st IVF cycle.

  8. I started doing this a few years ago. Over that time period, I gave myself a margarita, pair of hiking boots, a necklace, a double espresso, a massage, etc. Most of the time I just ate/drank whatever I couldn't the last half of my cycle. I still love my boots though...

  9. What a splendid idea! I totally agree that this is a great way make yourself feel better after such heartache. Sorry you didn't get lucky this time. Wishing you luck for your next attempt.

  10. Hubby often brings home a bottle of wine when I get my period, I call it a win:win gift (ie, I 'win' by either achieving pregnancy or by getting to drink a glass of wine ;P).

But I like your term for it very much!

  11. Lovely necklace!

For me it's a trip to our favorite family restaurant for breakfast or dinner. We know the staff really well and they have us laughing in no time!

  12. Thats an easy answer....CHOCOLATE, it cures and solves everything!

    Happy ICLW!!

  13. What a wonderful idea! I love it! Happy ICLW!
